Food Service (Seasonal)

Working at our on-farm eateries includes food preparation, but most importantly helping guests by taking orders and serving food. You must be prepared to help serve guests, maintain a clean work environment, and be responsible for following our steps for consistency and food safety protocols/regulations at all times. This area within the orchard is one of the busiest, so efficiency is essential. We are looking for individuals who are family-friendly, can give customer service with a smile, and be able to assist us in creating memories that last a lifetime.

Food Service Jobs Overviews

Food Prep: Food prep involves getting food ready for when guests arrive on the farm. The type of food depends on the location. Must wear closed-toed shoes, dress for the weather, be prepared to help serve guests, and maintain a clean and safe food prep area. Must be able to stand on your feet for periods of time. Must attend Center Grove Orchard’s Food Safety Training.

Cook / Fryer / Grill Operator (Must be 18 years of age or older): Being a cook involves being prepared for and anticipating feeding hungry guests. Cooks may be assigned to working fryers, grills, the Ovention, roasters, and ovens. Must wear closed-toed shoes, dress for the weather, be prepared to help guests and maintain a clean and safe food location. Must be able to stand on your feet for periods of time. Must attend Center Grove Orchard’s Food Safety Training. Locations are Feed Bunk, Hay Café, and Shucks.

Food Runner: A food runner is a very important job in the assembly-line system of our food service. Your primary responsibility is to either receive an order ticket from the cashier OR overhear the order being taken and work swiftly to fulfill the order by placing it on a tray and get it to the guest as soon as possible. You will gather the food and drink items and will work at a prep-table countertop and a steam table to fulfill orders. Secondary duties include restocking refrigerated supplies and coordinating with the Team Lead on which hot items need to be replenished. This position does encounter a consumable product so strict adherence is required and must attend Center Grove Orchard’s Food Safety Training. Locations include Feed Bunk, Shucks, Hay Café, Lemonade Stand, Kettle Corn Stand, Apple Jacks Stand, Pumpkin House Stand, Taco Cart, and Hot Dog Stand.

Cashier: As a cashier in a food location, it is important to become familiar with the menu items as you sell food and drinks on an iPad register. You will be taking orders and inputting them, receiving an order ticket that will be given to the food runner to use to fulfill the order, and you will be responsible for getting the order’s drinks while the rest of the order is being assembled. It is important to read the order back to the guest to ensure accuracy. Though you may assist with other tasks, it is important to always remain in-sight of your cash register and complete cashier training. Locations include Feed Bunk, Shucks, Hay Café, Lemonade Stand, Kettle Corn Stand, Apple Jacks Stand, Pumpkin House Stand, Taco Cart, and Hot Dog Stand.

Trays N Trash: An essential role for Food Service areas, you will collect all food trays from tables and remove trash from them so they can be cleaned. You will make sure trash bins are emptied when full and replace them with an empty garbage bag. Removing trash from tables and wiping the tables down is also your responsibility.

Dishwasher: This position will wash all dishes for the food venue they are assigned to in a 3-bay sink. You must be able to lift over 10 pounds, must be able to stand for periods of time, and be able to bend / stoop during work hours. Locations include Hay Café, Shucks and Feed Bunk – (Feed Bunk will wash all Stands dishes as well.)
